🏠 Think of a Computer Like a School!
Imagine your school for a moment.
- 🏫 The building, classrooms, desks, chairs, blackboard and computers are things you can touch.
- 📚 But the timetable, school rules, lesson plans and instructions tell everyone what to do.
A computer works in exactly the same way!

So every computer has two important parts.

🖥️ What is Hardware?
Hardware means all the physical parts of a computer that we can see and touch.
If you can touch it, hold it or move it, it is hardware!
Examples:
- ⌨️ Keyboard
- 🖱️ Mouse
- 🖥️ Monitor
- 🖨️ Printer
- 🎤 Microphone
- 🔊 Speakers
- 💻 CPU Cabinet
Hardware = Things you can touch.
💿 What is Software?
Now imagine you bought a brand-new computer.
You switched it ON...
Everything looks perfect.
But what if there were no programs inside it?
Could you play games? ❌
Could you draw pictures? ❌
Could you type a document? ❌
No!
That's because hardware needs instructions to know what to do.
These instructions are called Software.
Software is a set of programs and instructions that tells the computer how to perform different tasks.
Examples:
- 🪟 Windows
- 🎨 Paint
- 🌐 Google Chrome
- 📄 MS Word
- 🎮 Games
- 🎵 Music Player
🤝 Hardware + Software = Best Friends!
Can hardware work without software?
No!
Can software work without hardware?
Again, No!
They always work together.

When you type your homework...
- ⌨️ Keyboard (Hardware) sends your typing.
- 📄 MS Word (Software) understands it.
- 🖥️ Monitor (Hardware) shows the text.
All three work together to complete your task.
🖥️ Hardware Has Different Types
Just like every player in a cricket team has a different role, every hardware device also has a different job.
Hardware is mainly divided into two categories:
⌨️ 1. Input Devices
These devices help us give data and instructions to the computer.
Input means something goes IN to the computer.
Examples of Input Devices
- ⌨️ Keyboard
- 🖱️ Mouse
- 🎤 Microphone
- 📷 Webcam
- 📄 Scanner
- 🎮 Joystick
🎯 Real-Life Example
Suppose you search for "Weather Today" on the internet.
- You type using the Keyboard.
- You click the Search button using the Mouse.
Both devices are helping you give information to the computer.
🖥️ 2. Output Devices
After the computer finishes processing, it needs to show us the result.
The devices that display the result are called Output Devices.
Output means something comes OUT from the computer.
Examples of Output Devices
- 🖥️ Monitor
- 🖨️ Printer
- 🔊 Speakers
- 🎧 Headphones
- 📽️ Projector
🎯 Real-Life Example
You type 2 + 5 using the keyboard.
The computer processes it and shows 7 on the monitor.
The monitor is an Output Device.
